The Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ) electric car will be exhibited at the Hannover Messe 2023 in Germany. The event is one of the largest trade fairs in the world with a focus on industrial development.
The PNJ electric car will be presented at this important event by the Directorate General of Professional Development of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).
The product, called FLEX EV, is an electric car developed by PNJ teachers and students. The FLEX EV prototype is the result of a collaboration between PNJ teachers, students and industry partners in implementing a project-based learning (PBL) model. Sonki Prasetya, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and representative of the Hannover Messe 2023 delegation said, FLEX EV is a smart urban vehicle.
"The designated FLEX EV for flexibility around town."
According to Sonki, the first generation FLEX EV was developed as an ecological alternative to motorcycles to increase safety and comfort. For its size, FLEX EV is able to withstand the density of vehicles on Jakarta's streets and limited parking space. FLEX EV can also navigate small streets for free.
As an electric car, FLEX EV is considered cheaper, but still quite comfortable and safe compared to motorbikes. FLEX EV itself was developed with a top speed of 60 km/hour.
At the Hannover Messe 2023, FLEX EV will not be shown physically, but in digital form. Visitors can enjoy digital content created by the IT team and IT students using the provided VR glasses.
PNJ is developing an electric vehicle ecosystem
FLEX EV is one of the three main products in the electric vehicle ecosystem currently being developed at PNJ. Apart from FLEX EV, PNJ also has a Solar Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLTS) and an electric vehicle conversion workshop. "We want to show that we continue to develop the electric car ecosystem as PNJ's flagship area,"
The development of the FLEX EV electric vehicle is included in the Merdeka Learning Merdeka Campus policy. Through PBL, teachers and students collaborate with industry to develop FLEX EV which will be developed starting in 2021. A total of 5 lecturers and 10 students work together to build FLEX EV.
"The number is likely to increase as we continue to develop the safety systems that will be installed on the FLEX EV."
"For the industry, your participation not only helps in the production of the parts we need, but also assists technical staff, which students cannot do," he continued.
The participation of these students and the industry is expected to build a portfolio and acquire the necessary skills for the eventual development of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia. "We also hope to open opportunities for collaboration with industry or educational institutions exhibiting participants," he concluded.
